was premature and crippled.Tao's mother took great care of him and wouldn't let him die
in the cold winter.Kala has also told him that she was very kind and creative. She would always
make crafts and everyone else would ask where did you get them? Then his mom would just give
it to them without anything to ask in return. When she had died she didn't let anything happen so Kala
took him and raised him as if he was her own,but before that she said,"It had been the law if the clan that

CLASSWORK Thursday, October 23, 2008
Write your reaction to the last paragraph in the chapter. Do you agree or disagree with Graybeard? Is what he says true for those times, but not now? Or is the reverse true: is it true now, but wasn't true then?
I disagree with Graybeard because if Tao or any other person wanted to
draw or hunt then he shouldn't stop them because it's that person's dream to
do what they want, without anyone saying otherwise.I think that it was true then to
follow the rules and not go against taboos, but today we can draw freely and express
ourselves without disrupting nature. No one should be told what to do unless it is what their
culture does not approve.
Chapter 8
An important theme in this novel is that people should follow their dreams and do what they believe is right, even if they don't follow their society's expected ways.
The author examines this theme in a stone age setting. Imagine a similar situation today, where a person's desires go against society's expectations
What situation did you imagine?
In the situation you imagined, should the person follow his or her dreams or should they follow society's rules? Give your opinion.
The situation that I would imagine is if the girls or boys wouldn't
be able to do the hobbies they want.If girls/boys aren't allowed to do
their hobby that they dream of then they will just be doing something
that they don't enjoy. If girls enjoy going to Taekwondo or playing baseball then
her friends and family should be boosting her up not tearing her down.If a guy likes
singing and dancing then it shouldn't be a laughing matter;it should be a matter of encoura-
gement and boosting up.Nothing should be impossible to anyone that likes to fulfill their dream
and do what they want to do without anyone telling them otherwise.

Why does Tao feel he needs to go to the Mountain People?
Answer:
He feels he needs to go to the mountain people because he knew he needed to
prove himself again.
I feel that Tao and Volt are going to spend more time together they could have father
and son bonding time. They would probably get closer together and learn more about
each other that they have not known before. Tao would then probably start convincing
Volt to teach him much more about cave painting and hunting.
